  • Why Gutters Overflow?

  • Gutters get clogged due to the debris, leaves, seeds, needles, twigs and unwanted dirt. Clogged gutters restrict water to flow freely from the roof to the ground. Clean and maintain the clogged gutters to avoid water back up and gutters to overflow.

Gutters are an important part of every home as it diverts water away from the roof through the pipes to the drainage system. If gutters are not well-maintained then clogged gutters can harm the gutter life. Clogged gutters can overflow from the roof to the ground. When water overflows into the unwanted areas, it can damage the surrounding environment. An overflowing leads to water backup and can crack on the walls and furnishings.

Overflowing and leaking gutters can cause roof damage. Saturation of water on the roof can cause moisture into the drainage and on house walls. Serious consequences can result from gutter overflow like pulling off the gutter system.

    Problems With Clogged Gutters

    • Damage to the siding of doors, windows, and roof.
    • Water damage, basement and foundation flooding.
    • Rotten fascia boards.
    • Soil erosion.
    • Cracked sidewalks due to ice dams and heavy rainfall in the winter season.
    • Cracks in the walls, ceilings, and roof due to water saturation.
    • Damage to the home exterior walls and paint discoloration.
    • In winters, overflowing water leads to freezing of water.
    • Overflowing water can harm the flowers, gardens, grass surrounded to your home.

This is the most common cause of overflowing gutter system is clogged gutters. Debris, tree branches, leaves, dirt, seeds, twigs lead to gutter blockage. Your roof gutters can frequently become blocked, due to moss growth, tree leaves and seeds that have fallen from nearby trees. This restricts the flow of water and during heavy rain, the gutters start to overflow. Proper monitoring the gutter system and cleaning the debris can solve the overflowing problems.

With gutter blockage, moss and other roof debris can be forced into the rainwater connecting with the pipe from the roof gutter with the ground. To avoid clogged gutters, use a gutter guard to cover the gutter system and let water flow freely. Start by clearing the gutters of any blockages, check the downspouts and roof if water has a backup from the gutter system. Gutter guard is installed in such a way that rainwater flows towards the outlet and down the rainwater pipe to the ground. Gutter guards help in preventing debris from entering your gutters that prevent  water build-up, clogging, and water overflow.

In the rainy season, water overflows and runs down the side of the home and leaves these stains on the walls and gutter system. This overflowing water can go straight down to your basement causing the flooding your basement or cracking your foundation. Not maintained gutters can cause water leakage, making the water overflow from the roof to the ground.
